No matter what happens at corporate welfare mendicant Qantas, its leaders always manage to get pay rises — even while pilots, cabin crew and engineers are being asked to suck up consecutive two-year pay freezes in their five-year EBAs.

While Qantas profits were down 19.7% (this drop is on Qantas’ statutory profit; it likes to report an “underlying number” that generally looks better — that’s down 13.8%), its headline “underlying” profit was still a tick over $2 billion.
