After Dolly Parton died Aug. 25, fellow country singer Garth Brooks’ daughter Allie Colleen Brooks shared her “greatest fear” was to “see the world mourn a man they never knew the way I knew him.”
Garth Brooks’ daughter is getting candid after Dolly Parton’s death.
Amid an international outpouring of love for the “9 to 5” singer in the wake of her death, Allie Colleen Brooks compared fans’ love for Dolly to how they feel about her country superstar dad, sharing why she’s worried about how Garth will be mourned when he dies one day.
“My greatest fear in life is the day my Dad loses his life and I have to see the world mourn a man they never knew the way I knew him,” Allie wrote on Instagram Aug. 25. “To the personal family and friends of Mrs. Dolly you have all my love and condolences today and forever going forward.”
The 30-year-old added to the Parton family, “What a huge, beautiful, special life to have loved and to grieve. Thank you for sharing her with us all.”
Allie also noted that it is “a beautiful privilege” to mourn Dolly, writing in the caption, “To grieve is to know you loved deeply and fully. To the woman we all love, and all those who grieve for her—I love you all.”
While many read Allie’s thoughts as a sweet way to reflect on her relationship with Garth, others in the comments section saw the moment as insensitive. And the “Good As It Gets” singer clapped back at one user who noted they were “confused,” believing Allie was saying “no one is allowed to be sad except the family.”
“I am saying I don’t know how to respond to these things in my industry because of my life experiences,” Allie wrote. “I’m not telling anyone else how to grieve. I’m just acknowledging the family. You do you babe.”
Meanwhile, on her Instagram Stories Aug. 28, she added, “I really don't understand what everyone's so mad at me for??”
Over the years, Allie has put her strong bond with her dad on display, even performing together during one of his concerts. Plus, she’s shared how grateful she is to have him in her life.
“Here’s to all the Dads that have always been where they’re needed,” she wrote on Instagram on Father’s Day 2021, “and to the best one a daughter could ask for.”

Parton's younger sister shared moving insight into their special bond in her tribute.
"Every Tuesday about this time, before the sun came up and the world was still asleep, she and I, for many years, had our coffee together over the phone," she wrote on social media. "Being little farm girls we've continued to be early risers."
She added, "As she liked to say; 'shoot Tedda, we get more work done before the sun comes up than most folks do all day long!' We would catch up on gossip, as sisters do, and drink coffee and make plans, as it has always been our way"
