The Roosters have been handed a monumental blow to their premiership hopes after Sam Walker hobbled off the field during his side’s clash with the Dolphins.

Walker limped over the sideline in the 53rd minute after suffering what looked to be an injured ankle in an awkward tackle made by Kulikefu Finefeuiaki.

The Dolphins back rower‘s knees were already grounded as he slid and made contact with the Roosters gun’s foot, meaning the Bunker ruled out a hip drop tackle or foul play.

During the Cowboys and Tigers’ clash, Fox League commentator Dan Ginnane revealed the Roosters believed their halfback had succumb to a syndesmosis injury.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, head coach Trent Robinson confirmed Walker had “gone for scans” with a final diagnosis set to land in “a few hours”.

When asked if he believed Walker had suffered a “high ankle” injury, the Roosters coach said: “Possibly, yeah. We’re thinking that.”

Now the Tricolours face the prospect of being without their star halfback for at least the first week of the finals, or the entire series, depending on the severity of the blow.

However, Robinson remained tight-lipped when quizzed on the potential omission.

“Yeah, look they’re hypotheticals,” he said, and skipper James Tedesco echoed his coach’s comments.

“Yeah, well we don’t know how severe it is yet, so hopefully it’s not too bad,” he said.

“But it’s one of those ones you get caught in the tackle. I had a similar one as well, so yeah, it’s tough, hopefully it’s it’s not too long.
