Classic hidden-fleet warfare gets a fast-paced makeover as Fleet Hunters officially launches today, September 1 at 19:00 UTC, on Steam for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Developed and published by Gnarly Labs, the tactical strategy game blends the familiar battleship formula with intense real-time combat that keeps both players firing at once.
The biggest twist comes from the game’s Real-Time Mode, which completely removes the traditional turn order. Instead of waiting for your opponent to make a move, both fleets attack simultaneously whenever their weapons are ready. Every hit, miss, and split-second decision becomes part of a frantic race to locate enemy ships. You must disable their firepower and sink the fleet before yours goes down.
Players who prefer a slower, more methodical experience can switch to Classic Mode. It features the usual turn-based battles with the familiar rule of earning an extra shot after every successful hit. It’s a welcome option for fans of the original tabletop-style gameplay.
Beyond simply finding ships, Fleet Hunters adds another layer of strategy through four unique vessel classes. This includes carriers, battleships, cruisers, and patrol boats. Each comes armed with specialized weapons, including rockets, cannons, close-in defense systems, and carrier aircraft, while targeted attacks can cripple a ship’s primary weapons and dramatically change the flow of battle.
The game supports solo play against AI, LAN and private online matches with friends, plus ranked multiplayer complete with global leaderboards and achievements.
With its sleek retro-inspired 3D visuals and clever real-time mechanics, Fleet Hunters delivers a fresh and exciting evolution of a classic naval strategy game.
