Following a report earlier this month, Variety has revealed Dave Bautista has officially been cast to play Kratos in the Amazon live-action God of War TV series.

Bautista is best known as a professional wrestler and his role as Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He most recently finished filming a new Highlander movie, which did require him to bulk up.

Shooting for season one was put on hold after original Kratos actor Ryan Hurst was tore a bicep while doing a stunt. He has undergone surgery and is recovering. However, it can take up to a year to fully recover.

Callum Vinson has remained on to play Kratos' son Atreus. Other members of cast includes Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri and Danny Woodburn as Brok.

Amazon has ordered two seasons for the live-action God of War TV series with both seasons being shot back-to-back. It will follow the story of the two most recent God of War games.

"Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human," reads the logline.
