Luckknow,( 15th.Aug,2026):NTPC Northern Region Headquarters (NRHQ), Lucknow, celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour. Shri S. N. Panigrahi, Executive Director (Northern & Southern Region), hoisted the National Flag and paid tribute to the freedom fighters who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
National Song and National Anthem were sung/ played as per the protocol both in the beginning and during closing ceremony of the celebrations.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Panigrahi highlighted NTPC’s five-decade journey and its contribution to India’s development. He noted that NTPC accounts for around 24% of the country’s total power generation. The NTPC Group now has an installed capacity of over 91 GW i.e (91,080 MW), with the Northern Region contributing 25,967 MW. While NTPC achieved a PLF of 76%, the Northern Region recorded an impressive 77% PLF across thermal, hydro and renewable energy sources.
He highlighted NTPC’s commitment to sustainable growth, with a target of 149 GW capacity by 2032, including 60 GW from non-fossil sources. During FY 2025–26, NTPC added around 5,488 MW of renewable capacity.
The Northern Region recorded 44,310 MU generation as on August 13, 2026, contributing 25.41% of NTPC Group generation and 5.73% of All-India generation. Rihand, Singrauli and Vindhyachal stations secured 1st, 3rd and 8th positions respectively in NTPC Group PLF rankings, with PLFs of 84.92%, 82.88% and 78.89%.
Northern Region stations also achieved over 90% ash utilisation at Unchahar, Jhajjar, Tanda, Meja and Dadri. Major expansion projects include Singrauli Stage-III (1,600 MW) and Meja Stage-II (2,400 MW) in Uttar Pradesh.
Reaffirming NTPC’s commitment to a “Zero Harm” workplace and environmental sustainability, Shri Panigrahi highlighted the plantation of over 3.69 lakh saplings in FY 2025–26 and 2.18 lakh saplings so far in FY 2026–27. He also underlined the Northern Region’s CSR initiatives in healthcare, rural development, environmental sustainability and the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM).
The celebration also featured the presentation of Medha Pratiyogita and Swacchta Pakhwada competition awards to employees and their family members. The event concluded with the release of tricolour balloons, symbolising national pride, unity and the spirit of independence.
