A kayaker who wasn’t wearing a life-jacket was rescued in the Ottawa River near Petrie Island on Wednesday afternoon.

Ottawa Fire Services said a 911 call at 2:30 p.m. reported that the kayaker had flipped off his own watercraft. After arriving at the location in the city’s east end, the OFS water rescue team confirmed the kayaker was hanging on to a friend’s kayak.
The OFS team launched at the scene and the rescue was completed at 2:47 p.m.
