Poland's Iga Swiatek secured a quarterfinal berth at the National Bank Open in Toronto on Saturday with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk.
Swiatek, the No. 7 seed, converted her sixth match point to complete the win over her 10th-seeded opponent. She'll next play 15th-seeded Diana Shnaider of Russia, who upset third-seeded American Jessica Pegula 6-3, 6-3.
Top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus was to meet 16th-seeded Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova in the evening session. Eighth-seeded American Amanda Anisimova was to face ninth-seeded Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in the late match.
In doubles play, the fifth-seeded team of Su-Wei Hsieh of Taiwan and Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko defeated Norway's Ulrikke Eikeri and American Quinn Gleason 6-4, 7-1 (1).
The seventh-seeded duo of Australia's Ellen Perez and Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over American Asia Muhammad and Hungary's Fanny Stollar.
Leylah Fernandez of Laval, Que., the lone Canadian left in the field at the WTA 1000 event, was scheduled to play Japan's Naomi Osaka in the Round of 16 on Sunday.
