The inaugural Chief’s Gala launches Oct. 1 with proceeds supporting Camp Brombal, a police-led summer program for Grade 6 students, and the Canadian Mental Health Association — Windsor-Essex County branch. The event will also recognize police members and community partners for their contributions through a series of awards. Â
“Strong communities are built through strong partnerships,” said Windsor Police Chief Jason Crowley. “The Chief’s Gala is an opportunity to recognize the people and organizations who help make our community stronger, celebrate the achievements of our members, and support programs that have a meaningful impact across Windsor-Essex.”Â
Since 2002, Camp Brombal has provided a free, four-day summer camp experience for Grade 6 students enrolled in the Windsor Police V.I.P. (Values, Influences and Peers) program.Â
Approximately 40 students participate in camp activities focused on building confidence, developing leadership skills and creating positive connections with police officers.Â
Hundreds of children have taken part in the program over the past two decades, according to police officials.Â
The Canadian Mental Health Association provides a range of mental health and community health services to support individuals and families across Windsor-Essex. Â
“The CMHA-WECB is proud to partner with the Windsor Police Service through the Chief’s Gala,” said chief executive Nicole Sbrocca. “Partnerships like this allow us to continue providing essential mental health services and create more opportunities for people to access the care they need. Â
“We are proud to be part of an event that brings our community together and helps strengthen the supports available to people across Windsor-Essex.”Â
The event will take place Oct. 1 at the St. Clair College Centre for the Arts.Â
