Professor Chris O’Neil is stepping down from his role as principal and chief executive at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) Inverness campus.
The process is now underway to appoint a successor.
UHI has a unique federal structure with 48 campuses, research institutes, and specialist learning centres across the Highlands and Islands, Moray, and Perthshire.
Professor O’Neil said: “It has been a true privilege to lead and support the education of our students for nearly a decade and to work alongside such skilled and dynamic colleagues.

"My time at UHI Inverness has undoubtedly been the highlight of my career to date, and I wish my successor, colleagues and students all the very best.”
Janette Campbell, Interim Chair of the UHI Inverness Board of Management, said: “I wish to express my sincere thanks to Chris for his dedication and commitment to UHI Inverness over the last nine years.
"We wish him every success and all the very best for the future.
