Tributes have been paid to a 30-year-old Irish mother-of-one who was found dead at a home in Melbourne, Australia.
Annmarie O’Reilly, who was originally from Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, was found with serious injuries at a property in Ferntree Gully on Friday morning.
Emergency services were called to the house shortly before 10am local time. Despite efforts by paramedics to revive her, Ms O’Reilly was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 45-year-old man, who was known to Ms O’Reilly and is originally from Co Waterford, has been charged with her murder. He appeared before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court by video link and was remanded in custody.
He is due to appear again on February 23, 2027.
Homicide detectives in Melbourne are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Ms O’Reilly’s death, with a crime scene established at the property.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance to the family.
In a statement a spokesperson said "The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is aware of this case and is providing consular assistance. As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases".
News of the young mother’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief among her relatives, friends and the wider Irish community here and abroad.
A tribute from the Kilkenny Traveller Health Project described the news as “desperately sad” and said the organisation was devastated by Ms O’Reilly’s untimely death.
A statement online said saying: "We are devastated to learn of the desperately sad news of the untimely death of Annmarie O'Reilly. Our thoughts and prayers are with her Children, her Parents, Ned and Bridget, her Brothers and Sisters, her extended family, and her Friends. RIP Annmarie."
Ms O’Reilly’s family have also shared their grief, remembering her as their “beautiful daughter” and “a lady”.
Her brother Jimmy paid tribute to his sister, describing her as “the nicest woman you’d meet” and “the best mother to her kids”.
He said he could not believe his sister was gone and wished her peace as he remembered her with love.
