The soundbar by itself normally costs about $250, even though it is currently discounted to $149.99, so the extra $100 here is largely paying for the wireless subwoofer. That addition should make movies, sports, and games feel fuller, since the 3.1-channel soundbar already gives dialogue its own center channel while the subwoofer handles the deeper low end that a standalone soundbar cannot reproduce as convincingly. You also avoid adding rear speakers around the room, although Amazon does have the fuller 5.1-channel version with rear speakers on sale for $399.99, down from $489.99.
The hardware is fairly easy to work into a typical living room setup: The soundbar measures 24 inches across, so it takes up a decent amount of space under a TV, but wall-mounting hardware is included if you'd rather keep the stand clear. The included HDMI cable is the connection you will want to use for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, and HDMI ARC or eARC also lets your regular TV remote handle the soundbar’s volume. As for the subwoofer, it pairs wirelessly with the bar, which gives you more freedom to place it where the bass sounds best, though it still needs to be near a power outlet.
Amazon keeps things simple elsewhere, though, since there is no wifi or companion app and most adjustments are handled through the included remote. It is also worth knowing that this is strictly an audio product: It is not Alexa-enabled, does not support Alexa Home Theater, and has no Fire TV streaming built in, so you will still need a separate Fire TV device or compatible smart TV for that experience, notes this PCMag review. Those omissions may not bother someone who simply wants better dialogue, stronger bass, and Dolby Atmos support without moving to a full surround system, and at $249.99, that is where this bundle makes the most sense.
