"Lookin forward to tearin it up with the Who again"
Our collective memory has been zapped by the onslaught of onscreen information 24/7, so you're forgiven if you don't remember that one of last year's biggest music new stories was the Who firing, then reinstating, then firing drummer Zak Starkey yet again — with frontman Roger Daltrey even going so far as to accuse him of "character assassination."
The saga continues: now, it seems like the Who have once again reinstated Starkey.
On Wednesday (August 26), Daltrey had a solo show at the Encore Theater in Las Vegas, NV, where he apparently told the audience that the band had been rehearsing with Starkey for a potential European leg of their Song Is Over farewell tour, according to a review of the gig published by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. ("It sounded great," Daltrey reportedly said.)
Starkey then went forth to share this portion of said review on his Instagram, writing, "Nice one Rog x. Lookin forward to tearin in up with the Who again."
Of the "great" rehearsal, the drummer added, "I don't think we've ever rehearsed as tough as that .. [sic] usually we drink tea and talk about what time we're going home!"
If you'll recall, this whole thing started because Starkey was accused of "overplaying," with Daltrey — who's been dealing with hearing issues for years — having allegedly not been able to hear the rest of the band over his drums at a run of four benefit shows in London, UK, prompting the singer to come in a bar early on the live rarity "The Song Is Over." I guess this song isn't quite over yet!
