Kia has detailed U.S. pricing for the EV3, and it's now clear the compact electric SUV will be one of the best deals for a new car in the country — even if you aren't looking for an EV. The base 2027 EV3 Light FWD model will start at a price of $28,950, before the $1,459 destination fee, when it arrives later this year.
The entry-level trim uses a 58.3kW battery (with no heater) that provides a modest 221 miles of estimated range, a 350kW fast charge in 29 minutes, and a 0-60MPH time of 7.1 seconds through the 201HP front motor. You'll have to be content with 17-inch wheels and manually adjusted front seats.
However, you get a range of driver aids (including highway driving and lane keeping) as well as a 12.3-inch infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connections.
To get the best range, you need to spend at least $34,990 for an EV3 Wind FWD model with an 81.4kWh battery that delivers the claimed 321 miles of driving range. That also gets you a battery heater and a 10-way electrically-adjusted (and heated) driver seat.
The $38,490 Land FWD gives you 19-inch wheels, ventilated front seats with memory, and extended driver assistance such as blind spot view monitoring and parking distance warnings.
All-wheel drive starts at $38,690 for the Wind AWD, with range dropping to 280 miles in return for a 261HP dual-motor system with a heat pump and a quicker 0-60MPH dash of 6.3 seconds. The Land AWD begins at $41,690. Spend $43,490 for the GT-Line AWD if you want power for external devices, sportier looks, an eight-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system, and seat upgrades for the front passenger.
Buy the flagship $45,890 GT AWD and you get 288HP, a 0-60MPH sprint in 5.4 seconds, and advanced driver aids for evasive steering and highways. An optional Nightfall Package for most models adds black accents, special 19-inch wheels, roof rails, and a dark gray cabin, although pricing for the package wasn't immediately available.
The Kia EV3 isn't the only EV to start below a $30,000 U.S. price point. The Chevy Bolt and Nissan Leaf both cost as much or less while delivering more range. The Bolt is a limited-run model, however, and neither competitor has the EV3's small SUV design. Your choice at this level might depend on how you value pricing versus added utility, not to mention higher-spec configurations.
No matter your choice, the EV3 is coming at just the right moment. New car prices hit an all-time high in July, and the $20,000 new car died last year. Even well-off households struggle to afford new vehicles. Add surging gas prices and people are looking for cars that are not only affordable to buy, but reduce or cut dependency on fossil fuels.
Long range and affordable pricing no longer have to be mutually exclusive.
The EV3 ticks those checkboxes, and Kia (along with its parent Hyundai) is already enjoying a sales surge driven by hybrids and EVs. There's a real chance the 2027 EV3 will be on your shopping shortlist, particularly if you want an inexpensive commuter vehicle or an eco-friendly second car.
