Here’s when Ridley Scott’s latest sci-fi film will land in your living room
Ridley Scott’s latest sci-fi film, The Dog Stars, has divided critics. While Polygon loved the moody tale of a pilot (Jacob Elordi) searching for meaning in a world where most of humanity was wiped out by a deadly flu, other publications were less enthusiastic about the slow pace and wild tone shifts. Scott’s dramatic camera work is always worth seeing on a big screen, and The Dog Stars offers plenty of tense battles along with gorgeous sweeping shots from the air. But if the mixed reviews have you on the fence, you might be wondering when you’ll be able to watch it at home.
Here’s what we know about when The Dog Stars will be available digitally and on DVD.
We expect that The Dog Stars will follow the pattern of other 20th Century Studios films. Avatar: Fire and Ash premiered in theaters on Dec. 19, 2025, and got its digital release on March 31, while Predator: Badlands made its VOD debut on Jan. 6 after opening on Nov. 7, 2025. The Dog Stars premiered on Aug. 28, so that means it will probably land on VOD by the end of October.
20th Century Studios tends to wait about six weeks between digital and physical releases. Avatar: Fire and Ash got its physical release on May 19, while Predator: Badlands came out on 4K UHD, DVD, and Blu-ray on Feb. 17. That means you’ll probably see a special feature-packed The Dog Stars physical release in December.
Disney owns 20th Century Studios, and while an R-rated film like The Dog Stars would once go to Hulu, the company has been consolidating its collection on Disney Plus. Avatar: Fire and Ash launched on Disney Plus on June 24, about a month after its physical release and more than six months after its theatrical debut. Predator: Badlands arrived on Hulu on Feb. 12, about three months after its theatrical release. Since Hulu is expected to be fully phased out as a standalone app by the end of 2026, The Dog Stars will probably appear on Disney Plus in December or January 2027.
