A homicide investigation was launched after reports human remains were found inside a suitcase, only for police to later reveal it was actually a sex doll.
Members of the public called police after finding what they thought was a body in a suitcase on Wolgon Rd, near Oallen Ford
Rd, Oallen in regional New South Wales at 12.50pm on Sunday.
Initial investigations were undertaken by forensic officers at the scene.
Police said the item was retained in the bag and sent for forensic examination at the Forensic Medicine laboratory.
Following forensic examinations, police confirmed this morning the item in the bag was a lifelike doll, wearing clothing, with hair and a nose piercing. The item also had markings that resembled bruises and grazes.
New South Wales Police Superintendent Linda Bradbury defended investigators, saying during a press conference there were “no regrets at all” as the correct processes were followed during the investigation.
“The idea is to not disturb crime scenes as much as possible, to maintain the integrity of our investigation,” Bradbury said.
“We’ve been able to collect the remains, and then take them to investigation at forensics to then determine that they are not human.
“We followed our processes … to a high level and I think it’s no regrets all.”
