A New York couple are among dozens of Americans missing in the Himalayas after catastrophic floods tore through Nepal's border with Tibet on Wednesday.
Ramesh Sharma, 65, and his wife Neelam Sharma, 64, are among at least 65 Americans unaccounted for in the region, with upwards of 1,300 others also missing.
Another US citizen, Lata Samala, from Richmond, Virginia, was also identified as missing by a relative to the Daily Mail.
As of Thursday morning, the death toll was raised to least 332 people, and officials warned the true extent of the devastation is still unfolding and many more victims remain unaccounted for.
The missing couple's daughter, Dr Radhika Sharma, told the Daily Mail that her parents were unexpectedly delayed near the Tibetan border shortly before the disaster struck the Nepali side.
'We don't know why they were delayed,' she said, adding that her family have been left waiting and 'hoping they made it across' the border. Communications throughout vast swathes of the Himalayas and Nepal have been knocked out, complicating rescue operations and leaving the victims' loved ones in limbo.
Radhika said her parents were in Nepal for the first time and had been planning the vacation for some time after recently retiring and wanting to go on a 'religious pilgrimage.'
'My parents have been wanting to do this for a while,' she said, adding that they had hoped to visit Mount Kailash, an important site in the Hindu religion, across the Tibetan border.
'They had retired last year, and they just started traveling and really living their life,' Radhika said. 'They did loads of research for the trip.'
Ariana Riley, the missing couple's daughter-in-law, also told the Daily Mail that their family 'spoke with their guide [shortly before the disaster], and haven't heard anything since,' adding: 'We don't know why they were delayed.'
The family urged anyone with any information on the couple's whereabouts to contact them or the authorities.
Officials say at least 1,300 people are missing following the catastrophic flooding, including scores of victims from across the globe including at least 24 Canadians, 33 UK nationals and 35 Australians.
