Late in the third quarter Friday night at L.A. Southwest College, San Pedro had just scored a touchdown and PAT to go up 21-6 on King/Drew when there was a loud sound heard around the stadium.
That triggered a stampede of fans trying to leave the stadium after many thought it was a gunshot, San Pedro coach Corey Walsh said Saturday.
“It was crazy,” he said. “It sure sounded like a gunshot. Thousands of people were running.”

Players and coaches from San Pedro and King/Drew immediately sought cover on the field.
“We spent the next 10 minutes on the ground,” Walsh said.
They heard sirens, then dozens of police cars arriving. They were eventually escorted back to their bus.
ABC7 reported that authorities could find no evidence of a shooting.
City Section commissioner Vicky Lagos said the game will not be resumed. San Pedro was awarded the victory.
