Rep. Jim Clyburn, a senior adviser to House Democratic leaders, said Sunday that Democrats could impeach President Trump if the party wins back the House majority in November.

Mr. Clyburn told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that Democrats can advance their domestic agenda and impeach Mr. Trump simultaneously, if needed.

“We can walk and chew gum at the same time, and maybe do both,” the South Carolina Democrat said.

Mr. Clyburn said the party should also focus on adding justices to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“I think that we are in a position now that calls for some significant actions taken by the Congress, and we ought to expand. And 13 is a pretty good number,” Mr. Clyburn said. “A baker’s dozen would be a good number to have on the court, and I would hope we will get people on the court who will follow the constitutional underpinnings of this great nation of ours.”

Democrats impeached Mr. Trump twice during his first term, and several members of the House Democratic caucus are calling for a third impeachment.

However, Mr. Clyburn said impeaching Mr. Trump should not be the party’s priority, adding that Democrats should focus on making housing, energy, healthcare and education affordable and accessible.

“Impeaching the president will not do that,” he said.
