Compared to Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo has done an admirable job of keeping the price of the Switch 2 reasonably low amid rising component prices. But not even Mario is immune to market forces, and Nintendo is raising the Switch 2’s price by $50 on September 1. So, starting Tuesday, you’ll have to fork out $500 for a new hybrid console instead of the current MSRP of $450. In other words, if you’re thinking of picking up a Switch 2, this is your last chance to do so before the price hike.
When it comes to buying a Switch 2, you used to have more options than you do today. Previously, you could buy the console all by itself, or bundled with a game. There was even a bundle that let you choose among three first-party games. As we creep toward the price hike, however, all of the bundles have vanished from retailers. Your only reasonably priced option now is wither to buy a Switch 2 new or refurbished.
New Switch 2 consoles are available at all the usual retailers (see at Amazon). Refurbished Switch 2s are available at several retailers, but the best deal going right now is a “Grade A” refurbished unit at Woot for $399.99. That’s $50 less than the current price of a new Switch 2, and it’s the best deal going if you don’t mind refurbished hardware.
Woot, by the way, is owned by Amazon, so you can rest assured it’s a legit retailer. I’ve bought many things from Woot and never had any problems.
Nintendo has announced it will introduce two new Switch 2 bundles after the price hike. One includes a copy of Mario Kart World. It will be available in “late September” and cost $549.99. The other includes Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. It will cost $529.99 and will be out October 22, the day that game comes out.
Both bundles will include three months of Nintendo Switch Online, and offer slight discounts versus buying the items individually. But neither bundle will save you more than $50, meaning your best bet is still to buy before the price goes up.
