Finally, a real look at Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu

Disney and Pokémon are teaming up for a new streaming series coming to Disney Plus in 2027. Disney and The Pokémon Company announced Friday that the stop-motion animated adventure series Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu is now slated to debut on Disney XD and to stream exclusively on Disney Plus in 2027. A new trailer for the show was also released on Friday as part of the Pokémon XP event happening in San Francisco this weekend.

The announcement of The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu is part of a bigger push to bring Pokémon to Disney Plus.

Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu is a brand-new series from Aardman Animations, the creators of Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run, and Shaun the Sheep. The series will focus on Sirfetch'd and Pichu as they journey through Pokémon Sword and Shield's Galar region on heroic and friendly adventures. Here's the show's official synopsis:

In “Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu,” Sirfetch'd and Pichu embark on an epic journey through the Galar Region. Together, they set out on a gallant quest to help and protect Pokémon across the region. Their missions rarely go as planned, but their noble deeds forge their friendship as they step bravely into the unknown where peril, alliances, rivalries, extraordinary Pokémon, and endless laughs await them.

Aardman's collaboration with Pokémon was originally announced in 2024. Sean Clarke, managing director of Aardman, said at the time, “Bringing together Pokémon, the world’s biggest entertainment brand, together with our love of craft, character and comedic storytelling feels incredibly exciting. Aardman and [The Pokémon Company] share an emphasis on heritage and attention to detail as well as putting our fans and audiences at the heart of what we do, which we know will steer us right as we together create charming, original and new stories for audiences around the world.”

Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu will debut on Disney XD and stream on Disney Plus sometime in 2027.

Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, the classic Pokémon anime, is also now on Disney Plus in the U.S. and select international markets. Season 1 of the Pokémon anime series is now streaming on Disney Plus alongside later seasons available via Hulu: Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon (season 20), Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon Ultra Adventures (season 21), and Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon Ultra Legends (season 22).

“Pokémon has that rare ability to mean something to longtime fans while continuing to feel completely relevant to young audiences today,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family. “This new series ‘Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu’ brings Aardman’s signature stop-motion artistry with a bold, playful new perspective to this beloved world, giving audiences a fresh way to experience the characters they know and love. Along with ‘Pokémon the Series: The Beginning,’ these series are powerful additions to Disney XD and Disney+.”

“These stories, full of adventure and heroism, all told from the perspective of Pokémon is made even more exciting through the lens of the incredible filmmakers at Aardman,” said Pokémon director of original animation Phil Rynda. “Audiences will be delighted getting to know the Sirfetch'd & Pichu, and wonderful cast of Pokémon, featured in this series. Aardman has brought Galar to life in a way that makes you feel like you can smell the air, touch the tree bark, and want to adventure alongside our series heroes.”
