Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Guerrilla Games have reportedly started to overhaul the tactical three-player co-op action game, Horizon Hunters Gathering, following negative player feedback, according to people familiar with the company’s plans that spoke with Bloomberg's Jason Schreier.

The people said the developer has been working to reboot the game since June. The plan is to remove the "live-service component and turn it into more of a traditional cooperative multiplayer game with a story mode and a far smaller scope."

The game has not been cancelled, however, the studio has told staff they will have through December to impress executives with their next milestone. Many of the developers on the game have been reassigned to a different project that will also be evaluated at the end of the year.

Horizon Hunters Gathering was announced for the PlayStation 5 and PC in February of this year.

The next mainline single-player Horizon game "is still far, far away," according to Schreier. This is due the nearly all of Guerrilla Games having worked on Horizon Hunters Gathering for the last few years.

They really went all out on their bad decision making this gen.

Well, I would be at least somewhat more interested in a more traditional multiplayer title set in the Horizon universe than a live service game which I would never get, especially if it had local co-op, but I'd still much rather have a proper single player Horizon.

Such depressing news from Sony, coming from a HUGE Horizon fan. Just to think, 4 years of completely wasted dev time from Guerrilla Games. That time could have been invested into a proper Horizon 3 single-player adventure and have that lined up to be a KILLER launch title for PS6… 🙁

Well lets just hope that this delay will result in a better product.
