The internet isn’t toe-tally sure if these are hot or not.
Actor Margaret Qualley, who’s currently promoting the upcoming Ridley Scott film “The Dog Stars,” stepped onto the red carpet at the film’s world premiere Aug. 20, wearing a pair of Chanel’s “shoeless shoes.” The look instantly went viral for its controversial aesthetic, with some loving the high-fashion shoes and others saying that they weren’t shoes at all.
The shoes, part of Chanel’s Resort 2027 collection, consist of black heels that are strapped to the feet with two sets of laces. There isn’t much of a sole. So when wearing these shoes, the majority of the wearer’s feet are bare and touch the ground.
The internet wasn’t quite sure what to make of the moment. One social media user on X joked that the shoes were just a reflection of “shrinkflation. And another jokingly predicted that next season, the fashion brand will likely “sell the front part.”
However, there were still a number of people who were living for it. A social media user wrote, “chic this chic that. THIS is chic, to me”
Another person also described the shoes as “kinda chic high key.”
The shoes have been drawing a lot of opinions since they debuted on the runway in April at a show in the French seaside resort city of Biarritz. At the time, Chanel’s creative director Matthieu Blazy, had already sparked debate for the design. And fashion insiders weren’t even united in their stances.
“Is it half the price as well?” one person wrote on Instagram.
Another described the shoes as an “updated anklet for the beach!”
