There could have been a world where Nick Jonas was part of a successful, winter-themed animated Disney movie — but he has since let it go.
The singer, along with brothers Joe and Kevin Jonas, chatted with “Frozen” stars Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad during D23 for their “Hey Jonas!” podcast, where he revealed he “bombed” an audition for a role in the film.
“I auditioned for ‘Frozen,’” he said in the Aug. 18 episode, seemingly shocking the trio as he told them he read for the part of Kristoff, who is voiced by Jonathan Groff. “I went in and they said, ‘OK, what are you going to be singing today?’ I said, ‘Oh, I don’t know.’”
Stumping the person in charge of casting, Nick Jonas continued, “They’re like, ‘Do you have your sheet music?’ And I said, ‘No, no one told me I had (to bring it) …’ and so I just said, ‘Can you play something from,’ I don’t know what I said, some musical theater song, and I bombed the audition. It was terrible.”
“What?!” Gad said, as Bell quipped, “That must have been why you didn’t get it.”
Gad jokingly added that Nick Jonas would have had “such better chemistry with Kristen than Groff.”
Nick Jonas agreed, saying that while he loves Groff, “I do think it would have been better to cast me.”
Kevin Jonas then questioned his brother’s team and why they didn’t properly prepare him for the audition.
“I’ve changed agencies three time since then,” Nick Jonas replied.
And despite not getting the role of the good-natured ice harvester, he said he and his family are “massive fans” of “Frozen.”
Back in May, Joe Jonas shared on their podcast that he too had a similar experience when he bombed his audition for “The Morning Show.”
After being put in “the saddest room you can imagine,” he recalled being able to hear the other actors auditioning for the same role. “And these guys were crushing it.”
“And I go in and I just crash and burn,” he said. “It was literally like, I don’t even know what I’m auditioning for … It was just gone for me. And it was such a bad audition.”
