'The One About Matthew Perry' arrives in October
Late Friends star Matthew Perry is getting a Netflix docuseries. The One About Matthew Perry is out October 27.
The three-part series is directed by Mary Robertson, the filmmaker whose credits include Framing Britney Spears as well as docs about Diddy, Lisa Frank, June Carter Cash and more.
There's no word on who will be featured in the doc, but a logline promises "intimate testimonies from close family and friends." Perry's sister Mia Perry Bowick said in a press release, "I hope this series gives everyone who loved him, whether personally or from afar, a deeper appreciation for who he truly was, and the legacy he leaves behind."
Robertson said, "Matthew Perry was one of the comedic geniuses of our time. Through his many films, TV and stage performances, and his unforgettable portrayal of Chandler Bing, he made millions of us laugh, connect, and feel a little less alone. He also gave us so much more by bravely speaking about addiction. Yet the public only knew part of his story. That's why we set out to make this series: to let the people who knew and loved Matthew reveal the person behind the public figure."
The doc comes out one day short of the three-year anniversary of Perry's death. He died October 28, 2023, due to a ketamine overdose. He was 54.
