Marc Marquez won the Aragon Grand Prix for the third year in succession and for the eighth time in his MotoGP career on Sunday, the reigning world champion pushing clear after an absorbing early fight with Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi to jump to second in the world championship standings.

The Ducati rider came into Sunday’s 23-lap Grand Prix having led every lap at the remote Spanish circuit for the past two years, but was repassed by Bezzecchi on the opening lap after taking the lead at the first corner, their battle coming to a head on lap six when they ran side-by-side for the length of Aragon’s back straight.
Marquez was then shadowed by KTM’s Pedro Acosta for the following seven laps, but set consecutive fastest race laps on laps 13 and 14 to escape, eventually winning by 1.754secs from 2027 Ducati teammate Acosta, with Bezzecchi 3.629secs from victory in third.

The victory was Ducati’s fifth in succession at Aragon, while Marquez’s 77th MotoGP win made Aragon the second-most successful track in his premier-class tenure, topped only by his 10 victories at the Sachsenring in Germany.
With Bezzecchi’s Aprilia teammate Jorge Martin finishing a muted fifth, Marquez moved to within 19 points of Martin for the series lead with nine rounds remaining. His sprint/Grand Prix double at Aragon was his third in the past three years.
Afterwards, Marquez admitted he had forgotten to disengage his Ducati’s rear launch device as he braked into the first corner, immediately losing places to Bezzecchi and Martin as a result.
“As I said yesterday, the key point was the first corner … I did it again, but I made a huge mistake because I forgot the rear device,” he said.
“When I go out of turn one to turn two, the rear device was activated and I was super slow on turns 2-3, and two riders overtook me. From that point, I just build the pace … it was a nice fight, but then I was trying to control the race, open the gap and just manage.”
It was a costly weekend for several of this year’s other title contenders, with Aprilia’s Ai Ogura missing the Aragon weekend after suffering a broken hand in a training accident after the previous round at Silverstone, his Trackhouse Aprilia teammate Raul Fernandez retiring with a technical issue, and Ducati’s Fabio Di Giannantonio, who crashed in the sprint, finishing just seventh.
Bezzecchi, who broke at Aragon circuit record with pole position in qualifying, sits five points behind Marquez and 24 behind teammate Martin atop the standings after his maiden podium at the Spanish track.
Australia’s Jack Miller, who started from 13th, finished as the leading Yamaha in 11th place after running as high as ninth on lap 16, the Pramac Yamaha rider finishing 27.206secs behind Marquez on the first race weekend since Yamaha announced it would not be re-signing him for 2027 on Thursday.
The 14th round of the 22-round MotoGP season will take place at Misano in Italy from September 11-13.
