A major garda operation in Mahon today was part of the same investigation that led to the seizure of €210,000 worth of heroin in Blackrock on Cork city's southside yesterday.

Cash, drugs, suspected stolen caravans, horses and other animals were seized during searches carried out by gardaí in Mahon, near the shopping centre, this morning, it is understood.

Today's operation was directly linked to an investigation targeting the sale and supply of heroin in Cork city, which resulted in Tuesday's seizure and the arrests of a man and a woman.

E-scooters were also among the items seized during the Mahon operation, while a quantity of cash was recovered.

No arrests have been made in connection with today's searches at this stage.

The “high-impact search operation” was aimed at criminal activity in the city, according to a garda statement.

On Tuesday morning, approximately 1.5kg of suspected heroin, with an estimated street value of €210,000, was seized from a house in Blackrock on the city's southside.

The operation was led by the Cork City Divisional Drug Unit, assisted by the Southern Regional Drugs Unit and the Armed Support Unit (ASU).

A woman aged in her 40s, who is known to gardaí, was arrested.

A man in his 60s, who is also known to gardaí, was stopped in a vehicle nearby and arrested.

A search of a premises was subsequently carried out under warrant, during which approximately €13,000 in cash was recovered, along with a further €1,950.

The suspected heroin will be examined by Forensic Science Ireland.

The man and woman remain detained at Garda stations in Cork city under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
