Music from Ireland will touch down in Toronto with Lughnasadh Music Festival, running from September 25 to 27 at the Corleck Building at Bathurst Quay.
Presented by the Canada Ireland Foundation, Lughnasadh Music Festival will play over three genre-themed nights showcasing rising acts from Ireland as well as Canadian bands with ties to the island. On the first night (September 25), Kev Olden, Inn Echo and virally successful Irish songwriter Pa Sheehy will highlight folk, including some traditional sounds and storytelling.
September 26 will change the focus to rock with Easy Pieces and Dublin bands Winemom and Big Sleep. The final night on September 27 will close things out with the pop leanings co-headliners Sarah Crean and former Saint Sister member Morgana.
Lughnasadh (pronounced LOO-nahs-ah) is named after the Irish sun god Lugh, and is an ancient Celtic festival with a centuries-old tradition of music, dancing and celebration. It carries on today as an Irish cultural event to show gratitude for abundance and community, marking the harvest-time transition from summer to autumn.
