Leslie Mann revealed the relatable secret to her and Judd Apatow's 29-year marriage, admitting “it’s really hard.”
The This Is 40 star shared the relatable secret to her and husband Judd Apatow’s nearly 30-year marriage, admitting it can be “so hard” at times.
“You just accepting how hard it is, and not trying to fool yourself,” Mann said on the Aug. 20 episode of Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast. “That’s the secret.”
Another secret to keeping her and Apatow’s relationship rock-solid is doing away with comparisons to other couples.
“I feel bad about myself or my marriage when I see other people talking about their perfect marriages,” Mann—who married Apatow in June 1997—explained, “or how they never fight, or I don’t know just all the stuff that I can’t relate to.”
“And then I think, ‘Is mine way harder than it should be? And then what the f–k am I doing with him?’” she said before jokingly adding, “I can’t leave now because it’s almost 30 years and that’s lame.”
As for what has kept the Spa Weekend actress and the Girls producer—who share daughters Maude Apatow, 28, and Iris Apatow, 23, together—choosing each other after nearly three decades?
“We find each other entertaining and funny sometimes,” Mann said. “He’s my best friend and I tell him everything.”
And while all couples face hurdles in their relationships, the 54-year-old is proud to call hers “the biggest lesson.”
As she put it, “I’m constantly learning from our relationship.”
She’s also learning to fill her own cup as her and the 58-year-old’s daughters get older.
"When my kids were little, I didn't have self-care," Mann recently told E! News. "I didn't even know how to do it. I didn't even think of myself, because I just didn't—and that was a mistake. I think it's important to at least sleep."
But these days, The Other Woman actress has learned to make her self-care a priority.
"Now that my kids are older, I'm better with it," she explained. "I have more time for myself. I don't know how you do it when you're a mom of young kids."
"But, also, I have a 28-year-old now and a 23-year-old," Mann added, "and they're awesome."
