ALBANY – Hudson Valley and Capital Region weather is not looking great for the last week of summer vacation.

From Monday night through Thursday, there will likely be rain showers every day, said National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Villani.

"Not continuous but kind of on and off," he noted Sunday. "A front will be oscillating north and south."

Stronger thunderstorms could hit Tuesday and Wednesday, particularly in the Hudson Valley, Villani said. It's less clear if it would affect the Capital Region, he added.

Though Tuesday marks the official start of meteorological autumn, it will still feel like summer, Villani said.

"You'll definitely feel a noticeable increase in humidity" starting Monday, he said.

The best chances of avoiding rain appear to be on Monday and Friday.

Albany city school students return to school Friday, so the weather may improve just in time for them to go back to class.

After a wet week, he's predicting a return to nicer weather heading into the Labor Day holiday.

"By next weekend, we could start to dry out," he said.
