A new wind farm in the Scottish Highlands could generate enough electricity to power more than 98,000 homes each year under plans submitted to the Scottish Government.
Low Carbon has lodged a planning application for the proposed Forsinain Forest Wind Farm, which would be located around three kilometres north of Forsinard and 16 kilometres south of Melvich.
The development would feature up to 12 turbines with a combined generating capacity of 86 megawatts if approved.
The company estimates the wind farm could generate around 318,000 megawatt hours of electricity annually, equivalent to the yearly electricity consumption of more than 98,000 UK homes.
It is also expected to prevent more than 135,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
The application has been submitted to the Scottish Government's Energy Consents Unit under Section 36 of the Electricity Act.
The proposed site is predominantly made up of non-native commercial forestry and sits entirely outside the Flow Country UNESCO World Heritage Site.
As part of the plans, Low Carbon is proposing significant peatland restoration work, which it says would help improve habitats while supporting carbon sequestration.
The company also intends to establish a community benefit fund worth £5,000 for every megawatt of installed capacity.
Based on the proposed 86MW capacity, that would provide around £432,000 a year for local projects and community initiatives.
Low Carbon estimates the development could also generate approximately £1 million a year in business rates for Highland Council.
Forsinain Forest would be Low Carbon's third wind project to enter the planning process in Scotland as the company expands its renewable energy portfolio.
