Footage has seemingly leaked from GTA 6, which shows basketball minigames and a potentially controversial new feature.
We’re mere days away from getting a new glimpse of GTA 6 during next week’s Netflix event, but a significant new leak appears to have outed some features ahead of time.
Rockstar’s highly anticipated sequel has been subject to several leaks already. In September 2022, over an hour of early footage was published online, and in December 2023, the debut trailer leaked ahead of its planned release, forcing Rockstar to set it live early.
Ahead of the Netflix showcase, more footage has now emerged online, along with the game’s map. And it all seems to be real, because Rockstar has immediately had them taken down.
While we can’t share anything here, two videos are being circulated online. One clip shows Jason, one of GTA 6’s two protagonists, playing basketball outside the house shown in the trailers. When he scores a hoop, a ‘focus’ stat goes up, which suggests the game will have role-playing mechanics akin to GTA: San Andreas.
In a second clip, Jason is seen driving a car, with SG Lewis track Impact playing on the radio. He crashes into a delivery truck, and proceeds to club the driver to death with a wrench. As he returns to the car, we see icons for ‘loadout’ and ‘storage’ on the back.

When Jason returns to the driver’s seat, two icons appear in a pop-up underneath the car’s model, which resemble petrol and engine gauges. This suggests, for the first time in series history, you’ll have to manage fuel in GTA 6. It could prove a controversial feature if so, although it might encourage more vehicle theft to avoid nipping for petrol constantly.
Rockstar hasn’t said anything about the leaked videos, but the clips have been hit with copyright strikes, which suggests they are legitimate. We’ve reached out to Rockstar for comment.
A group named Cyberleek has claimed responsibility for the leaks, which include an image of the Leonidas map. According to the group’s website, Cyberleek is targeting Rockstar to protest the decision to sell digital pre-orders without a proper physical version.
Additionally, Cyberleek is threatening more leaks ‘until they issue a public statement and apology’ with a ‘concrete commitment to fix the harm they caused’.
While it appears the clips are real, reliable insider NateTheHate has claimed the footage is from an old build of GTA 6.
In response to a ResetEra thread about a rumoured GTA 6 press event, which some have speculated is where the footage originates from, the insider wrote: ‘Um… unless a new round of previews are underway, this claim isn’t accurate. Also, the leaked footage is over a year old.’
It’s unclear how NateTheHate would know this, but the user interface on the leaked footage does scream placeholder assets, especially the minimap.
Netflix’s Extended Look at GTA 6 is set to take place on Thursday, August 27 at 8pm BST. It will launch on the Rockstar YouTube channel and GTA 6 website six hours later.
