Mayor Sherry Bondy said she plans to introduce a motion at Monday’s council meeting that would require all future gateway and prominent community signs to undergo a formal review after residents objected to the inclusion of two Town of Essex logos on the restored 1954 Harrow arch.
“I hear you, Harrow. You have made your voices loud and clear regarding the new archway sign and I deeply appreciate the pride this community has in its independent roots,” Bondy wrote on Facebook about the feedback. “The restoration of the 1954 original looks fantastic, but the addition of the ‘Essex’ branding has understandably sparked a lot of conversation.”

The arch was erected by the Colchester South & Harrow Agricultural Society (known commonly as the Harrow Fair Board) 72 years ago.
The sign still belongs to the fair board, which worked alongside an Essex municipal team to restore the arch, she said.
