A 32-year-old driver who attempted to evade a CBSA checkpoint on the Ambassador Bridge was arrested on Friday for dangerous driving, Windsor police said Saturday. The incident caused traffic delays for Canada-bound vehicles Friday afternoon.

Police say that on Friday at approximately 2:30 p.m., Windsor Police officers were dispatched to the Ambassador Bridge to assist the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) after a driver failed to stop at the border inspection lanes.
Upon arrival, police say officers began speaking with the driver in question when he became “combative”. When asked to step out of the vehicle, he refused and began driving the car at a high rate of speed, injuring one Windsor Police officer and one CBSA officer.
The vehicle subsequently hit several barriers and flipped over. The male suspect then fled the area on foot. Officers pursued the suspect and arrested him a short time later without further incident.
Both officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
A 32-year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, obstructing a peace officer, and assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.
On Friday afternoon, police said an investigation into an apprehension at the Ambassador Bridge could cause delays and traffic disruptions for Canada-bound vehicles. U.S.-bound vehicles faced no delays.
