Before Law Roach was the stylist for a client list that includes Zendaya, Ariana Grande and Céline Dion, he shared he used to charge his clients around $700 a day.
It costs celebrities a pretty penny to look like a million bucks.
Law Roach—a self-described “Image Architect”—detailed how much he used to charge his clients before becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought-after stylists.
“When I first started styling, I was charging maybe somewhere around $700 a day,” Roach told GQ in an interview published Aug. 27. “When I was getting better at the job, I raised my prices. So it was $700, then it was $1,500, then it was $3,000, then it was $6,000.”
As for what the 48-year-old currently charges his elite client list, which includes Zendaya, Ariana Grande and Céline Dion?
“It depends on who I’m working for and what I’m doing,” he added. Still, he noted, “I’m not Linda Evangelista. I’m never going to say I don’t get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day.”
Roach began working as a stylist around 2010 after growing a successful vintage store in Chicago. Since then, he admitted his success has been a “slow crawl,” but it’s certainly a long catwalk away from his first job.
“I worked at a mental health facility when I graduated from college, and I was making $22,000 a year,” he explained. “So that was $600 every two weeks or something. When I quit that job, my family were like, ‘Oh my God, you quit that good job with those good benefits.’”
These days, the Project Runway judge is able to appreciate just how far he has come.
“I feel accomplished when I can go into a store and not look at my bank account right after I buy something,” he shared. “I don’t think rich is the right word, but I feel comfortable.”
And that comfort allows Roach to splurge on some luxury items—like the Hermès bags he collects—as well as some… less conventional purchases.
“I bought the house next door to a house I already owned,” he said, “because I didn’t want anybody else to live that close to my property. It’s gonna become basically like a compound.”
But beyond the bags and houses, the RuPaul’s Drag Race judge emphasized that his biggest passion is buying items at auction.
“I don’t really drink. I never was into drugs,” he explained. “I don’t smoke cigarettes. I’m not a partyer. I’m not, you know, promiscuous. My real vice is auctions—that’s my addiction.”
In fact, he said he gets competitive and then “I black out.”
