A Scott Pendlebury move to Gold Coast is reportedly “growing closer” as the games record-holder continues to ponder over his footy future.
Pendlebury has courted interest from multiple rival clubs as he remains uncontracted for next year, but as AFL Media’s Cal Twomey reports on Friday, the chances of him ending his decorated career up north are increasing.
Depending on how far into the finals the Magpies venture, the 38-year-old’s season could be over as he nurses a hamstring injury.
It’ll give him more time to contemplate his options, with the elusive left-footer remaining steadfast in waiting until the end of Collingwood’s season to make his decision.
Multiple reports have indicated the Suns are big players for Pendlebury, with Twomey claiming Damien Hardwick’s mob “have established themselves as the key club” pursuing him.
In a year where the Suns reportedly suffered internal relationship fractures in the back half of the season, a leader in Pendlebury’s form would likely be extremely welcomed by Hardwick.
When asked midweek about where things sat with Pendles’ call, Pies coach Craig McRae told media: “It’s probably 50-50, to be honest; I could see opportunities for him to play on and retire.
“I’m sure he’s weighing up those things.”
Pendlebury, who’s been thoughtfully managed throughout the year, has played 17 games this season for an average of 22.5 disposals.
But in the first half of last Friday’s dead-rubber clash with Brisbane, Pendlebury exited with the injury that’s set to cost him at least another week on the sidelines.
