At least 392 people were killed in Wednesday’s devastating flash flood in Nepal and Tibet, authorities have said, with almost 500 people injured.
In an update overnight, it was announced more than 1,000 people are still missing, with reports suggesting at least 39 Australians are still unaccounted for.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the flood was a “glacial collapse and debris flow” that “caused subsequent catastrophic impacts downstream” on Wednesday morning (local time).
Two lakes have developed in the Himalayas, on either side of the border between Nepal and China, with officials now warning of fresh risks of flooding, Reuters reports.
