Arkansas Storm Team Forecast: Storms Sunday, wildfire danger into midweek — Sunday evening, September 6, a very low chance of a few strong to severe storms continues. Storms are utilizing the very hot, humid conditions. Many of them are pulse storms, so they form and dissipate quickly.
This activity is likely to continue into Sunday evening, starting to become less active after sunset. A stray shower or storm is possible in the first half of Sunday night before activity ends.
Monday, September 7, Labor Day, dry air enters much of Arkansas. Heat index values won't be as high for many, but it'll still be very hot.
Heat Advisories are in place for parts of western, northwestern, and southern Arkansas through Monday.
The dry air means that the wildfire danger increases from high to extreme. If a wildfire ignites, it will spread rapidly in these conditions. Extreme wildfire danger is likely to continue through Wednesday, September 9, as dry air sticks around.
Rain chances are at 0% for central Arkansas from Labor Day through Wednesday. Some more moisture returns to the air by Thursday and Friday, but the wildfire danger is still high.
Moisture returns as a cold front is likely Thursday into Friday. Timing and how much rain the front brings are still uncertain. The pattern should remain active into next weekend, offering more rain and storm chances into the following week.
By mid-September, a more impactful cold front could bring some relief from the high heat. However, it's so far out that nothing more can be broken down at this time. We'll continue to monitor the patterns and bring an update when more is nailed down.
