While detailing her relationship with fame and being recognized for roles like The House Bunny and Scary Movie, Anna Faris shared how her sobriety has played a role.

The House Bunny  actress recently shared that she has been experimenting with sobriety, and noticed that it ultimately helped her relationship with fame.

“Along the way and in the arrogance of my 20s, I did feel envious of people who got their big break in a different way and I think that is a really ungracious idea,” Faris explained to Chelsea Handler during an Aug. 20 appearance on the Dear Chelsea podcast. “I really started to notice and appreciate when people recognize me, they would usually smile.”

Indeed, while the 49-year-old admitted she used to get embarrassed for being known for acting “f–king stupid” on screen, she learned to appreciate the pleasant encounters her roles encouraged. As she put it, “I really started to notice that and absorb that.”

And when Handler surmised that Faris’ change in perspective might have had to do with her sobriety, the Scary Movie alum emphatically agreed, noting it was “one of the many gifts” of quitting alcohol.

“Turns out there’s a correlation between drinking and depression,” Faris deadpanned, going on to more seriously note, “For me, at least.”

Indeed, when it came to drinking, Faris acknowledged, “I had to take a step back and not self-sabotage.”

Meanwhile, Faris—mom to son Jack, 13, with ex Chris Pratt—has been on a journey of self-acceptance. Earlier this month, she detailed to E! News how she managed to get over her “healthy dose” of mom guilt.

When she became a mom, Faris admitted a “blanket of guilt” overcame her, recalling that she felt as though “I’m doing something wrong all the time.”

Faris, who wed Michael Barrett in 2021, admitted that her filmography didn’t help.

“What did it mean to go from actress—comedic actress, spoof movie queen,” she continued. “To the identity of mom. Being worried with what that means. I wish that future generations don’t have that same burden of identity. Of perfection, the pressure. We’re all really flawed.”

Ultimately when it came to her journey to accepting herself as a mother, she looked no further than her own son.

“I am proud that he has a deep sense of justice and I find him just fascinating,” she mused. “I’m so lucky. I'm just so lucky that I have this incredible, fascinating boy.”

Although she admitted self-doubt creeps in from time to time, she added, “I hope I’m doing OK.”
