Glasgow’s Subway has undergone a “major transition” over the past few weeks, with commuters told to expect several changes when it reopens tomorrow.
The Subway has been completely shut on numerous occasions – including July 19, August 16, August 23, and August 30 – to allow for final testing of its new signalling and communications system.
A lot of work is said to have gone on behind the scenes to prepare for operations being transferred to a new state-of-the-art control room.
On Monday, August 31, people travelling on Subway services will notice a variety of differences.
Richard Robinson, director of Transport Operations at SPT, explained what to expect in stations and on the trains.
This includes fully operational platform screen doors at three stations, on-train announcements and passenger screens, and platform screens with live train arrivals.
Speaking on Friday, August 28, he said: “This is a really big weekend for us at Subway. We’re going through a major transition for our new signalling and communication system.
“What does this mean to you? Well, it means that, first of all, Sunday, August 30, we’re closed. We need to undertake a lot of work behind the scenes to make sure we’re ready for service on Monday morning.
“However, on Monday morning you should notice some differences as you come into our services.
"You’ll walk into the station, and the platform information screens will suddenly look slightly different.
“They’ll also be working alongside the new signalling system to bring you that up-to-date information around when trains are arriving and what you can see in terms of any other information we need to provide to you on your journey.
“As you get ready to board the train, you’ll notice if you’re at Govan, Partick, or Ibrox that our platform screen doors will now be operational, giving full coverage along the whole extent of the platform.”
