The Argonauts enter at 1-0 after stunning Southern Illinois 34-31 in their first game as a Division I program. West Florida rushed for 226 yards and forced four turnovers, including three interceptions, to secure the upset. Defensive end Byron Puryear recorded seven tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack on his way to earning UAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Central Arkansas is also 1-0 after earning an impressive 36-24 road victory over UT Martin. Quarterback Donovyn Omolo threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns while adding 118 rushing yards, earning UAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. With both teams coming off notable opening-week victories, Saturday gives West Florida and Central Arkansas an early opportunity to make a statement in conference play.
