A Follow-Up to the $20.6 Million S1 LM

It’s barely been a year since Gordon Murray Automotive dropped the S1 LM, but the company’s already back with another supercar. This latest creation from Gordon Murray Special Vehicles is set to make its world debut at The Quail during Monterey Car Week.

That means this new car has some big shoes to fill, considering the S1 LM already made waves for its jaw-dropping price tag. Only five S1 LMs exist, each packing a custom 4.3-liter V12 with 710 horsepower. One even fetched $20.6 million at auction, smashing records for a new car.

Murray is keeping his cards close to his chest, only teasing that the new car is “something very special.” But if you squint at the teaser, there are a few tasty hints hiding in plain sight.

What The Teaser Tells Us

At first glance, the new supercar borrows some of the S1 LM’s design DNA, but it dials back the aggression. The massive rear wing is nowhere to be seen, leaving behind a much sleeker silhouette. You still get the smooth bodywork, beefy rear haunches, and that signature roof scoop, plus what look like NACA ducts on the nose and doors. All signs point to a car that’s more at home on the road than the hardcore S1 LM.

It’s hard not to see shades of the McLaren F1 here – a car Murray himself penned back in the day. That legendary influence is already all over the T.50 and S1 LM, and it looks like it’s making another comeback.

No official word on what’s under the hood just yet. Odds are good we’ll see another Cosworth V12, since that’s Murray’s go-to for naturally aspirated twelve-cylinder magic, but we’ll have to wait for the big reveal to know for sure.

The Launch is Happening This Week

The new car will take center stage at Gordon Murray Special Vehicles’ display at The Quail. The world will get its first look at 11:45 a.m. PDT on Friday, August 14, with Murray himself and Indy 500 legend Dario Franchitti leading the show.

But the newcomer won’t be flying solo. The Le Mans GTR is coming back as a fully functional XP1 prototype, fresh from tackling the Goodwood Hill and making a splash at the Le Mans Classic in July. It’s got a screaming Cosworth V12 and takes its cues from those legendary longtail endurance racers.

A handful of customer-owned T.50s will also be on hand, so visitors can feast their eyes on a whole fleet of Gordon Murray V12s in one place.

For now, the new supercar is still shrouded in mystery. But with the big reveal just days away, we’re about to find out if this is a tamer S1 LM or a whole new beast altogether.
