Bajaj Auto has expanded the Pulsar N160 range with the launch of two new variants — the Pulsar N160 S and Pulsar N160 SS. Prices start at Rs. 1,33,511/- for the N160 S, while the top-spec N160 SS is priced at Rs. 1,42,585/- both ex-showroom Delhi. The important thing to understand here is that the Pulsar N160 range now has two major engine versions. The existing N160 continues with the 2-valve engine, while the newly launched S and SS variants get the new 4-valve engine.

The biggest change with the new Pulsar N160 S and SS is the new 164.5cc, 4-valve engine. It produces 18.5 PS and 14.4 Nm, making it more powerful than the existing 2-valve N160, which produces 16 PS and 14.65 Nm. The new engine is also oil-cooled and gets an electronic throttle. Bajaj claims that the new 4-valve N160 can accelerate from 0-60 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, making it the fastest and most powerful motorcycle in its segment according to the company. But the new engine isn’t the only change. The 4-valve N160 also gets more electronics.

he new 4-valve N160 is available in two variants – S and SS. Think of the N160 S as the base variant and the N160 SS as the top-spec version. Both motorcycles get the same 164.5cc 4-valve engine, electronic throttle and four riding modes — Road, Rain, Sport and Off-road. They also get Crawl Technology, which is designed to make slow-speed riding in traffic easier by reducing the need for constant clutch and gear changes. The biggest difference comes in the braking and electronics package.

The N160 S gets single-channel ABS, while the N160 SS gets dual-channel ABS. The SS also gets traction control, which is not available on the S. The SS also gets more premium equipment, including a 5-inch TFT display with Google Maps mirroring, while the S gets an LCD console with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. The SS further adds Wi-Fi connectivity. The SS also gets a larger front brake of 300 mm, adjustable control levers and a radial rear tyre, making it the more fully equipped version of the two.

The existing 2-valve Pulsar N160 continues to be sold alongside the new S and SS variants. This means buyers now have a choice between the simpler 2-valve N160 and the newer, more powerful 4-valve versions.

In simple terms, the range now works like this: – Pulsar N160 – 2-valve engine – Pulsar N160 S – 4-valve engine, base variant, single-channel ABS – Pulsar N160 SS – 4-valve engine, top variant, dual-channel ABS + more features

Both new variants get Bajaj’s Intelligent Throttle (ETB), which controls throttle response and enables the different riding modes. The four riding modes allow the motorcycle to be adapted to different conditions, while Crawl Technology should be useful in everyday city traffic. The top-spec SS goes a step further with traction control and the TFT console with Google Maps mirroring. Bajaj claims this is a first for a sports motorcycle in India.

The new N160 variants continue with the motorcycle’s aggressive streetfighter design but get new graphics and coloured alloy wheels. Bajaj has also revised the handlebar angle and seat height for improved rider ergonomics. The new variants will be available in Atlantic Blue, Pearl Metallic White and Brooklyn Black.

The new Bajaj Pulsar N160 S is priced at Rs. 1,33,511/- while the Pulsar N160 SS costs Rs. 1,42,585/- both ex-showroom Delhi. With the new 4-valve engine, four riding modes, electronic throttle and Crawl Technology, the N160 has taken a significant step forward. The SS then adds dual-channel ABS, traction control, a TFT display and more premium hardware. So, while the 2-valve N160 continues as the simpler option, the new S and SS variants bring the 4-valve N160 to buyers, with the S being the base version and the SS sitting at the top of the range.
