An activist from Balochistan has called for worldwide observance of August 11 as Balochistan's Independence Day, urging people across the globe to mark the occasion as a symbol of unity. In a post on X, Baloch activist Mir Yar Baloch said people would hoist the flag of what he described as an "independent Balochistan" at their homes, neighbourhoods, markets, shops, educational institutions and other public places. He said the celebrations would also aim to pass on the significance of the day to future generations.<\/p>\n
Mir Yar Baloch further claimed that the Republic of Balochistan and its "60 million Baloch people" consider themselves an independent and sovereign state.<\/p>\n
"The principled position of the Republic of Balochistan is that the division of the subcontinent has subjected this entire region to continuous conflicts, unrest, terrorism, economic instability and political crises. Since the imposition of an artificial and terrorist state like Pakistan on this region, various nations here have been deprived of peace, prosperity, development and stability," the statement posted by him read.<\/p>\n
He asserted that Pakistan\u2019s terrorist policies have not been limited to this region alone, but their effects have reached the global level.<\/p>\n
"Western countries were affected by the threat of terrorism originated from Pakistan, while the Middle East also suffered from continued instability. It began with the attack on Kashmir immediately after the artificial establishment of Pakistan, which was followed by a military invasion of Balochistan on March 27, 1948, and the then Khan of Kalat, Mir Ahmad Yar Khan, was forced to sign a forcible accession, while he was later imprisoned for fourteen years," he said.<\/p>\n
Mir Yar Baloch went on to criticise Pakistan's military and political establishment, alleging a history of policies that have fuelled conflict and instability across the region. The activist also alleged that Pakistan's 1998 nuclear tests in Chagai were conducted without the consent of the Baloch people and claimed the region continues to suffer their long-term impact.<\/p>\n
Referring to the post-9\/11 period, Mir Yar Baloch further alleged that Pakistan received billions of dollars in US aid for counterterrorism while simultaneously backing militant groups, claiming these policies prolonged conflict, instability and bloodshed in the region.<\/p>\n
"The Republic of Balochistan is of the opinion that as long as Pakistan remains in its current form in this region, it will not be possible to achieve sustainable peace, development and prosperity. Therefore, the Republic of Balochistan urges the international community to recognize the independence of Balochistan and cleanse this region of the scourge like Pakistan," the statement read.<\/p>\n
According to him, Balochistan declared its independence on August 11, 1947, during the withdrawal of British rule from the Indian subcontinent.<\/p>\n
"The news of this declaration was published in international media at that time, including the New York Times, and was also broadcast on All India Radio. On this historical basis, the Baloch nation has been celebrating its Independence Day on 11 August and will continue to celebrate it with the same spirit in the future," the statement concluded.<\/p>\n
