Modi was repeating a line that Indian prime ministers have recited for decades. It is a comfortable formulation that costs New Delhi nothing and offends no one.<\/p>\n<p>A week later, Indian officials at the <a class=\"link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mea.gov.in\/press-releases?dtl\/41461\/Indias_participation_at_the_second_Ministerial_Meeting_of_Palestine_Donor_Group_in_Brussels_July_13_2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><u>Palestine Donor Group<\/u><\/a> meetings in Brussels reiterated the commitment, welcoming diplomatic avenues towards Palestinian statehood and UN membership.<\/p>\n<p>But this language now describes a country that no longer exists in any coherent, contiguous form, and every week that passes widens the gap between rhetoric and reality.<\/p>\n<p>On July 14, just a week after <a class=\"link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/india-supports-two-state-solution-for-solving-israel-palestine-conflict-says-pm-modi\/article71194955.ece\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><u>Modi\u2019s Jakarta remarks<\/u><\/a>, Israel\u2019s security cabinet approved a budget of $434 million to establish 34 new settlements in the occupied West Bank. This is the latest move in a wider settlement project, the scale of which makes the two-state framework difficult to sustain in its classical sense.<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s settler expansion has drawn criticism abroad, but the same chasm between word and deed is visible closer to home.
