Coinciding with Anime NYC, Netflix released new information and trailers for its upcoming animated projects. As part of this, we received a new trailer, teaser images, and a release date for Edgerunners 2, Studio Trigger’s follow-up to its 2022 sci-fi tragedy.

The trailer focuses on the show’s four new characters — Roman Carax, Weak “King” Kingsley, D, and Talia Yang — as they endure tough times in the futuristic dystopia of Night City. Carax, a young film enthusiast who is obsessed with analog media, records disturbing sights a child probably shouldn’t see as his co-stars enter death spirals. The legendary edgerunner King laments about losing control to a hospitalized Talia — he's familiar with the feeling because he’s clearly suffering from cyberpsychosis. Carax also runs into D, a netrunner out for revenge, and describes him as a physical embodiment of grief and suffering. Fun!

The trailer suggests Edgerunners 2 will be told from Carax’s perspective as he records his peers' downfall. The teaser also reveals an Oct. 20, 2026 release date on Netflix. New teaser images were provided with the announcement.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 was announced last July at Anime Expo 2025. Despite being a sequel, the show will work as a standalone story and follows an all-new cast. Like its acclaimed predecessor, Edgerunners 2 takes place in Night City, the same setting as CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077. Studio Trigger is returning to animate the 10-episode show, with Kai Ikarashi taking on the role of director. Bartosz Sztybor is once again the showrunner and Masahiko Otsuka is coming back for writing duties.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners received critical acclaim for its kinetic animation, beloved cast, and gutting twists, a legacy which has given its sequel a lot to live up to. While we’ll have to wait another two months to see how Edgerunners 2 stacks up, its bleary, VHS-tinted trailers make it seem like the series hasn’t lost a step aesthetically. We’ll find out for sure soon enough.

This anime sequel is out surprisingly soon.

Source: Read the original article on www.polygon.com

It doesn’t seem like this sequel is going to pull its punches It’s almost time for more pain and suffering, because Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is only a few months away.
