The New York Jets will let their projected regular season starting quarterback get some reps in during the preseason.<\/p>\n
For the first time in a decade, Geno Smith will don a Jets jersey as he gets the start in their second preseason match against the Pittsburgh Steelers.<\/p>\n
Smith missed the preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to some ankle soreness.<\/p>\n
In the run up to the weekend, Smith remained practicing despite the injury that kept him out of the previous matchup.<\/p>\n
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn kept Smith's status for the game a secret.<\/p>\n
'I just think there's soreness,' Glenn said of Smith's ankle.<\/p>\n

Smith didn't start the last game due to soreness in his ankle, but practiced through the week<\/p>\n
The Jets lost their preseason opener last Friday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/p>\n
'I think any player at this point knows that something is going to hurt at some point. He's a competitor and he wants to make sure he gets those reps in.<\/p>\n
'The thing is that we want to be smart too about how we go about doing things when it comes to him and any of our players.'<\/p>\n
Former Clemson quarterback and Jets rookie Cade Klubnik started the team's previous matchup.<\/p>\n
Neither Klubnik, nor quarterbacks Brady Cook or Bailey Zappe, managed to complete a touchdown pass on the night.<\/p>\n
The only touchdown scored by the Jets came from the feet of running back Braelon Allen.<\/p>\n
