{"id":46486,"date":"2026-08-19T21:57:20","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T21:57:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/futureknowledge.in\/?p=46486"},"modified":"2026-08-19T21:57:20","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T21:57:20","slug":"fifth-fifa-vice-president-turns-against-infantino-saying-he-has-lost-confidence-in-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/futureknowledge.in\/?p=46486","title":{"rendered":"Fifth Fifa vice-president turns against Infantino, saying he has \u2018lost confidence\u2019 in him"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hungary\u2019s Sandor Csanyi highly critical of Fifa president<\/p>\n<p>He cites dismissal of COO Kevin Lamour as \u2018final straw\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Gianni Infantino has lost the support of another one of Fifa\u2019s vice-presidents, with the Hungarian football federation chief, Sandor Csanyi, criticising the president\u2019s \u201cprofessional judgment, ethical standards and leadership\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In an explosive letter sent to Infantino on Tuesday, which was first obtained by the news agency Agence France-Presse, Csanyi states that he has \u201clost the confidence I previously placed in you\u201d and describes the \u201cunexpected dismissal\u201d of Fifa\u2019s chief operating officer, Kevin Lamour, as the \u201cfinal straw\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Lamour was sacked by Fifa on Monday after breaking ranks last month by criticising Infantino over his aborted plan to sell off shares in the World Cup to private investors.<\/p>\n<p>Csanyi\u2019s letter continues the trend of senior global football figures deserting Infantino, with the Hungarian banker the fifth of Fifa\u2019s eight vice-presidents to call for him to stand down.<\/p>\n<p>The Uefa president, Aleksander Ceferin, Victor Montagliani of Concacaf \u2013 the North and Central American and Caribbean Confederation \u2013 and Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al Khalifa of the Asian Football Confederation have all made their positions clear, as has the Football Association chair, Debbie Hewitt.<\/p>\n<p>Of the Fifa vice-presidents, only Alejandro Dom\u00ednguez of South America\u2019s Conmebol, Patrick Motsepe of the Confederation of African Football and Oceania\u2019s Lambert Maltock are supporting Infantino.<\/p>\n<p>Csanyi is also a member of the 37-strong Fifa council, which is theoretically its main decision-making body, but has been repeatedly overlooked by Infantino.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy conviction that you are capable of continuing to lead Fifa successfully and effectively in accordance with the shared values that previously formed the basis of our cooperation has been undermined,\u201d Csanyi wrote. \u201cThe final straw was the unexpected dismissal of Kevin Lamour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter also cited \u201ca number of controversial decisions\u201d at this year\u2019s World Cup, including Infantino\u2019s involvement in \u201cplans to outsource Fifa competitions and place them in the hands of external parties\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><em>Source: <a href='https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/football\/2026\/aug\/19\/fifth-fifa-vice-president-turns-against-infantino-saying-he-has-lost-confidence-in-him' target='_blank'>Read the original article on www.theguardian.com<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hungary\u2019s Sandor Csanyi highly critical of Fifa president He cites dismissal of COO Kevin Lamour as \u2018final straw\u2019 Gianni Infantino has lost the support of another one of Fifa\u2019s vice-presidents, with the Hungarian football federation chief, Sandor Csanyi, criticising the president\u2019s \u201cprofessional judgment, ethical standards and leadership\u201d.
