Iberian Peninsula.

The results revealed that in most regions, warming over the summer exceeded the global average of 1.4°C.

Further north in the Celtic Sea, temperatures were around 1.2°C higher than average, while over in the Mediterranean, the water was up to 3°C higher.

By combining these readings with climate models, the researchers found that climate change is the main driver.

According to their analysis, climate change has directly caused about 2°C of warming in the Mediterranean, 1.4°C of warming in the Bay of Biscay and Iberian Peninsula, and 1.3°C in the Celtic region.

Source: Read the original article on www.dailymail.com

Published: 00:01 BST, 19 August 2026 | Updated: 00:04 BST, 19 August 2026 Europe's seas are warming at an 'alarming'
