NAZIRA, August 18, 2026 \u2014 Following the devastating floods that affected several parts of Sivasagar district, severe erosion along the banks of the Dikhhow River has emerged as a fresh threat to residents and the busy Sivasagar\u2013Nazira road.<\/p>\n
Several villages under Hahchara Mouza were badly affected by the recent floods. As the floodwaters recede, residents are now facing renewed fear as erosion continues at several points along the river.<\/p>\n
The situation is particularly serious along the nearly one-kilometre stretch between Hahchara Kujibali and Singhadwar Manipuri Tiniali. Erosion on both banks has reportedly washed away several homesteads and agricultural land into the river, while other residential areas remain under threat.<\/p>\n
The B.G. Road, popularly known as the Sivasagar\u2013Nazira road, is also facing increasing danger at vulnerable stretches. Residents fear that continued erosion could eventually damage the road and disrupt an important transport link in the district.<\/p>\n
Locals have urged the Water Resources Department to immediately inspect the affected stretches and undertake scientifically designed, permanent erosion-control measures. They said temporary measures would not be sufficient to address the continuing threat.<\/p>\n
Residents have further warned that another major flood could cause far greater damage in Hahchara and adjoining areas if the vulnerable riverbanks are not protected before the next flood season.<\/p>\n
They have appealed to the authorities to treat the erosion as an urgent matter and initiate protective measures before more homes, farmland and public infrastructure are lost.<\/p>\n
